Call for Interreligious Sufficiency Economy

Christoph Stueckelberger, Director and Founder of Globethics.net

Buddhist, Islamic, and Christian faith share a common vision of economy: sufficiency economy which puts priority on the needs of the needy. This was one result of a panel organized by Globethics.net on sufficiency economy with the participation of Dr. Pipat Yodprudtikan, expert of sufficiency economy in Thailand, Dr. Randa Alia Hamdy from Egypt on Islamic Finance, Christoph Stückelberger, Executive Director of Globethics.net as a moderator on Christian perspectives and Laura Berry Executive Director of Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility in the US.

The panel was part of a global conference “In Search of the Virtuous Economy: a plea dialogue, wisdom and the common good”, organized by the Globalization for the Common Good Initiative GCGI at the California Lutheran University, near Los Angeles, USA. The GCGI is a partner of Globethics.net.

The conference documents will be available on the website www.gcgi.info. As one of the outcomes of the conference; Globethics.net will publish a book on “Global Sufficiency Economy. Interreligious Response to the ‘Crisis Capitalism”.

This conference and many other conferences around the world show that business leaders, political leaders, academics and religious leaders are looking for a new ethical foundation of future world economy.
